Preparing for our much anticipated annual quiz
Our annual quiz in April 2025 will once again be in aid of Overgate Hospice. The quiz has become one of the key dates in not only the Wilkinson Woodward calendar, but the local business community calendar. A fun and worthwhile cause, the evening is an enjoyable way to spend time together with business colleagues and raise much-needed funds for an indispensable local charity. For some at Wilkinson Woodward, it is also the culmination of months of planning and hard work.
Two Wilkinson Woodward devotees who deserve particular praise for their input and commitment to the event are James Hodgson and Clive Masters. This dedicated duo has arranged the quiz for good number of years, leaving no stone unturned to ensure the night goes smoothly and is enjoyable for everyone who attends. Of course, with so much to do, the pair also call upon the goodwill of the Wilkinson Woodward social committee, who are always on-hand to provide help when needed.
Though the quiz takes place at the end of April, planning starts many months before when the marketing committee signs-off on the plan to host the event and makes decisions about the date and venue.
Once the green light has been given, James and Clive liaise with The Shay to book the venue and organise the traditional pie and peas supper, while also getting in touch with charity, on this occasion Overgate Hospice, to inform them about the event. The Hospice usually has a team taking part in the quiz.
With the key details agreed upon and the venue and date confirmed, James and Clive then begin working with the design team to create the event’s promotional materials. This includes designing, printing and distributing posters for display and creating regular social media posts leading up to and post event. They also start thinking about the questions for the quiz. As you can imagine, a vital part of the evening. Questions can’t be too difficult and yet they can’t be too easy either, a delicate balancing act.
An important fundraising part of the evening is the charity raffle. To raise as much as possible for the charity, we need prizes, so James does the difficult task of visiting local businesses and asking for donations.
Thankfully, the generosity of the local business community means there are always lovely prizes up for grabs on the night and something to tempt everybody.
Thanks to James and Clive’s efforts, last year’s Quiz Evening saw 23 teams from across Calderdale and Huddersfield take part, with the event raising £1,400 for Overgate Hospice.
Quiz Night 2025
James and Clive will also be hosting the quiz on the night, which will once again be at the Shay Stadium in Halifax on Wednesday 30th April. Doors open at 6 pm, with the quiz starting promptly at 6:30.
Tickets are £15 per person and include a donation to Overgate Hospice also a delicious pie and peas supper. Teams can be a maximum of 6 people.
