Long-Serving Lawyer, Clive Masters, Retires from Wilkinson Woodward

After an astonishing 35 years of service at Wilkinson Woodward, our colleague, Clive Masters, retired on 18th December.

With a background in accounting before moving into law, Clive originally joined the firm as a conveyancer in November 1990. Following his qualification as a Chartered Legal Executive in 1993, he went on to gain considerable experience in employment law, criminal law and matrimonial law.

A Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Legal Executives, Clive’s dedication to helping vulnerable members of the local community resolve their problems led him, in 2008, to specialise in matrimonial law, divorce, separation, children disputes and financial matters.

Over the decades, many of Clive’s clients have chosen to return to him for further advice. As a result, he has developed long-standing professional relationships with many of those who come to him for legal advice.

Besides his immense contribution to our legal services, Clive, alongside James Hodgson, has arranged the Wilkinson Woodward Annual Quiz for a number of years. With a quiz, raffle and pie and pea supper for over 120 people to organise, this is a major undertaking that raises thousands of pounds for Overgate Hospice every year. We certainly hope that Clive will make an appearance at the 2026 quiz!

To celebrate Clive’s retirement, the Wilkinson Woodward team met up in his honour at The Hourglass in Halifax on 28th November. It was a highly enjoyable evening where we could give Clive the send-off he deserved – including pizza ordered to the bar.

Halifax born and bred, Clive lives in Greetland and is married with two grown-up children. In his spare time, which he will now have a lot more of, he enjoys eating out, watching sport and reading.

All the team at Wilkinson Woodward would like to thank Clive, not just for his long tenure at the firm, but for his friendship and support throughout the last 35 years. We wish him a long and happy retirement.
