Brains, banter and an amazing £2,305 raised for a fantastic cause

We are still buzzing from our recent quiz night!

Not only was the evening a fantastic success, bringing together friends, colleagues, and local businesses for some friendly competition and, most importantly, raising funds for Overgate Hospice.

Held at The Shay Stadium in Halifax on 30th April, this annual event has quickly become a favourite on the Wilkinson Woodward calendar. With 21 teams battling it out, and an incredible £2,305 raised – the highest total we’ve ever raised for a quiz night!

Our regular quizmasters, Clive Masters and James Hodgson – who looked dazzling in their signature sparkly jackets – kept everyone entertained as they fired off 10 rounds of questions covering everything from history and geography to food, music, science, sport and current affairs. There was also an intriguing picture round, which saw a few teams scratching their heads.

After a mid-quiz break, during which pie and peas were served, the competition ramped up. While last year’s runners-up, ‘Six From The Six’, ultimately claimed victory, two teams were in joint second place. A tie-breaker question – about bananas! – saw ‘Le Bosh’ taking second place, with ‘Eastwood Insurance Brokers’ coming in third.

The evening wrapped up with a raffle full of fantastic prizes. We are so grateful for the generosity of the local businesses and individuals who donated, including Shrewdd Marketing, Pollino, Thai Corner at Dean Clough, The Victoria Theatre Halifax, Vine Bar, Harveys of Halifax, Ricci’s Place, Cinnamon Lounge West Vale, The Grayston Unity, Meandering Bear, Galactic Golf, Vue, Loafers, Yang, Toppers Deli, Sultan Mahal, Engine Social Dining and Dario’s Pizza.

We would also like to thank The Shay for hosting us again, as well as everyone who attended, donated, and cheered their team on.

Commenting on the event, our MD, Maureen Cawthorn, said: “It was fantastic seeing everyone have a great time while supporting such an important cause. Overgate Hospice is very close to our hearts, and we are pleased that every penny raised during the quiz will go towards the charity’s Big Build Appeal.”

Suzanne Benn, Business Partnerships Manager at Overgate Hospice, who attended the quiz along with a team from the charity, added: “We are so grateful for the continued support from Wilkinson Woodward and everyone involved. Events like this raise essential funds and show just how much the local community values what we do. The Overgate team had a fantastic time, and it was wonderful to see everyone in such good spirits.”

At Wilkinson Woodward, supporting our community isn’t just something we do; it’s who we are. From fundraising events to volunteering, we are proud to stand behind the incredible charities and organisations that make Calderdale and Kirklees such special places to live and work.
