A new chapter for Wilkinson Woodward

Laura Kurowski’s journey at Wilkinson Woodward is a story of dedication, growth, and deep-rooted commitment to the firm, our clients and the communities we serve.

As we celebrate 140 years of serving Calderdale and Kirklees, we’re proud to see ‘one of our own’, step into the role of Managing Director and lead the firm into our next chapter.

A journey of dedication

Laura’s journey at Wilkinson Woodward is truly inspiring. She joined as a trainee solicitor in 2006 after completing her law degree at the University of Warwick and her LPC at BPP Law School in Leeds. She then qualified in 2008 and became a director in 2014, steadily building on her experience and expertise across several departments including, residential and commercial property, as well as corporate and commercial law.

As she reaches what will also be her 20th anniversary year at Wilkinson Woodward, Laura has become a respected leader and mentor for many members of the team at all levels of their careers. Her promotion is a testament to her long-standing commitment and dedication to the firm also her deep understanding of our clients across all our offices.

Her devotion also extends beyond the work environment. Laura actively supports the Huddersfield University Law Clinic, participates in the firm’s charity initiatives, corporate dinners and socials, while also contributing to local organisations including Platform 1, a mental health and crisis support charity for men and The Eleanor Hirst Trust. She is also a member of the Conveyancing Quality Scheme, reflecting her commitment to professional excellence in the profession.

For Laura, becoming Managing Director is a proud milestone: “Having spent my entire working career at Wilkinson Woodward, it is an incredible privilege to take on this new leadership role. The firm’s philosophy has always been one built on strong relationships with our clients and communities, and one that is welcoming to new clients. I am proud to continue this tradition, and I look forward to working with our talented team to further build on the firm’s strengths in the years ahead.”

Laura takes over from Maureen Cawthorn, who has been at the helm since 2007 and has played a pivotal role in shaping Wilkinson Woodward, as it is today.

“It has been an honour to lead Wilkinson Woodward for the past 19 years and to be part of the practice for more than three decades,” said Maureen.

“Laura’s promotion is richly deserved – she has shown exceptional dedication to the firm, our clients and the communities in which we work. I am confident that under her leadership, Wilkinson Woodward will continue to thrive.”

While filling Maureen’s shoes is no small task, Laura is looking forward continuing the legacy of strong leadership, client care, and community focus that Maureen has championed for more than three decades at Wilkinson Woodward.
