The Great Huddersfield Cleanup

Huddersfield Times recently launched an great local initiative that looks set to benefit residents, businesses and visitors to Huddersfield.

The Great Huddersfield Cleanup (GHCU) is a community litter picking event which runs over the Spring Bank Holiday weekend from Saturday 29 to Monday 31 May.

Organisers are hoping local individual, community groups, schools, families and businesses will sign up to litter-picking in areas known to be litter hotspots on key routes into the town centre.

The initiative is also being supported by several local businesses as well as Kirklees Council who will be loaning litter-grabbers, arranging collection points for bags of litter and putting temporary road closures in place in selected areas to ensure safe access for volunteers.

The initiative aims to

  • Have a positive impact on the appearance of routes into the town centre
  • Encourage more visitors to the town centre
  • Improve habitats for urban wildlife

Volunteers can sign up to any amount of time - from an hour or two to the entire weekend..
