Meet Adele Walker, Commercial Property Solicitor

Adele Walker recently joined our Huddersfield team as a Commercial Property Solicitor.

We caught up with her to hear how she found her way into commercial property, what brought her to Wilkinson Woodward, and what keeps her busy when she’s not at work.

Q: Tell us about your role.

I act for individuals, companies and lenders in connection with buying, selling and leasing commercial property. I also work with landlords or tenants on lease renewals, surrenders, assignments, variations, and other related matters. In addition, my role requires me to get involved in corporate support work, assisting colleagues with the property due diligence aspects of both share and asset purchases.

I take pride in providing a thorough and professional service, keeping my clients informed throughout the process and offering guidance and support where needed.

One of the things I enjoy most about my role is the variety of clients I work with. I also value the relationships I build, which can lead to assisting clients and their businesses with future endeavours. One day I may be acting for small business owners, offering support and guidance along the way; the next, I may be supporting well-established company directors. I have also worked with various pension companies, doctors, and numerous lenders throughout the years in the role.

Q: Tell us about your career journey.

I studied Law at Sheffield Hallam University whilst starting my career at Oxley & Coward in Rotherham as a legal assistant in residential property. I soon found myself drawn to commercial property and sidestepped into the firm’s commercial property team.

Securing a new role as a paralegal in the commercial property team at Lupton Fawcett (now Flint Bishop) in Sheffield, I went on to complete my Legal Practice and professional skills courses, following which I secured a training contract, gaining experience across corporate, property litigation and continued experience in residential and commercial property. Once qualified, I was offered the role as a solicitor and, following a year in practice, continued the role at a growing firm, BRM Law in Sheffield.

After starting a family, I relocated to Huddersfield while continuing to practise commercial property at Holden Smith Law, largely working on buy-to-let acquisitions. I joined Wilkinson Woodward in August, and I am looking forward to building my commercial property practice locally.

Q: What made you apply to Wilkinson Woodward?

It came about through a recommendation from a close friend who had secured a position at the firm but, sadly, was unable to accept it due to personal circumstances. I saw it as a good opportunity to settle and establish roots locally, with the lead focus of the role being commercial property work.

Q: What stood out to you about the firm?

The firm is well established, but what stood out most to me was the people. Following my friend’s recommendation and meeting Andrew and Laura in person, it felt like the right place to be. It was also apparent that a lot of staff have stayed loyal to the firm, which was another positive for me.

Q: What do you enjoy doing outside of work?

Being a mum is definitely my main role outside of work!

I enjoy going for scenic walks in the countryside and spending time with family and friends. When I get the time, I also enjoy cooking and getting stuck into a good series in the evening.

I’m a big fan of a spa day or a short break away with friends, but I’m equally happy at home – a cosy night in with pyjamas, nibbles, chocolate and a brew (or a glass of wine where required) is hard to beat!

Adele brings a wealth of commercial property experience to Wilkinson Woodward, along with a real commitment to keeping clients informed and supported. We’re pleased to have her on board and look forward to seeing her establish herself within our Huddersfield team.
