After having bounced back strongly following Covid-19, Wilkinson Woodward is well placed for continued growth in 2023, having already strengthened the Family Law team with the appointment of two new solicitors.

Our Family Law team, which deals with all aspects of family law, divorce, children, cohabitation, and domestic violence, has a fantastic reputation across not only Halifax, Huddersfield, and Brighouse but throughout Yorkshire and beyond. The team, which is renowned for dealing with complex, high-conflict cases, has had the same head of department, Penny Manock, for over 30 years and combined it has nearly 100 years’ experience.

The team’s depth of experience and skills enables us to support clients who are often experiencing some of the most difficult times in their lives with calm, professional legal guidance.

Dealing with domestic abuse cases

Domestic abuse is sadly more common than most people realise. According to the Crime Survey for England and Wales, an estimated 2.4 million adults aged 16 years and over experienced domestic abuse in the year ending March 2022. This equates to a prevalence rate of approximately one in 20 adults.

At Wilkinson Woodward we know that acknowledging and accepting that you are in an abusive relationship can be one of the hardest things you may ever have to do. If you are the victim of domestic abuse, you’ll need a legal specialist who can act on your behalf.

It is an area in which each member of our Family Law team not only has the experience, but a track record in achieving positive outcomes which ensure personal safety.

Our team provides pragmatic and non-judgmental advice that ensures steps taken are proportionate to the concerns raised and will limit the chance of any further occurrences.

We can assist with:

  • Applying for a non-molestation order or occupation order to protect someone from abuse, controlling behaviour, violence, threats of violence and harassment
  • Applying for a court order to stop a person entering or coming near a home to protect people and belongings
  • Protecting children from abusive partners by applying for the appropriate court orders
  • Advising on ending volatile relationships by commencing divorce proceedings

We’ve been part of the local communities of Calderdale and Kirklees for over 130 years. We live and work in the region and are very proud to be able to make a positive contribution to many important community causes and events. We have a longstanding relationship with Halifax Women’s Centre, and other domestic abuse support groups across West Yorkshire which supports vulnerable women.

If you are experiencing domestic abuse or have been threatened with violence by your partner, it is imperative to get expert help. You can make a report to the police by calling 101 or, if it’s an emergency, dialling 999.

You can also contact IDAS, the largest specialist charity in Yorkshire providing support to people affected by domestic abuse and sexual violence on 03000 110 110.

If you need legal advice and representation, please get in touch with any member of our Family Law team in Halifax or Huddersfield.
