Our annual quiz in support of Overgate a roaring success...again.

Our 2024 charity quiz night was a fantastic success and we are delighted to announce we raised a whopping £1400 for Overgate Hospice.

Taking place on the 11th of April at the Shay Stadium in Halifax, the evening was filled with laughter, banter, and intense but friendly competition as 20 teams went head-to- head in the battle for glory and bragging rights. Quizmasters Clive and James were stars of the evening, getting into character donning sparkling lame jackets.

The first half featured challenging questions on various topics, including history, geography, sports, science/nature music and arts/literature.

Refreshments ensued at half-time with pie and peas for all (including a vegetarian option), which down went down a treat and gave everyone some much-needed brain power for the rounds of questions ahead.

After a short intermission, teams re-grouped for more rounds of questions, this time entertainment, food/drink, current affairs, pot luck and finally, a picture round. In the end, two teams achieved joint first place and it all came down to a tie-breaker question about the TV show Friends!  Ultimately, NRG (Northowram Reader Group) came out on top, with Six From The Six coming second and Brighter By Name Not By Nature grasping third.

Unfortunately, as with any quiz, last place and the wooden spoon must be awarded to one team, and this time it was the Hospice Hopefuls – There’s always next year!

Following this intense competition, a charity raffle was held featuring prizes generously donated by many local businesses and individuals including:

Riccis Place, Haris Tyler, Revo Records, Thai Corner, MAMIL, Vocation Brewery, Los Pampas restaurant, Vue Cinema, Yorkshire Soap Company, Spice Delight, NOCO, Harveys, Loafers, Dog and Gun at Oxenhope, Coffee Domination, Victorian Craft Beer Cafe, The Big Six, Halifax Book Corner, Shrewdd Marketing, The Wine Barrel, Lucy’s Little Bakehouse, Wainhouse Tavern, Vine Bar, Prestige Flowers, Syhiba, Kiplings, The Village, Hogs Head Brew House, Mccaffertys, Skye Direct, Toppers Deli, Broadway House Chambers, Temujin, Artistic Nails and Beauty, Caraglam Beauty, 1913 Beauty Salon, Sue Canning, Heather Nuttall, Sandra West, Poppy Brown, Dawn Prest.

We want to thank The Shay for hosting the event, everyone that donated prizes, also everyone that gave up their time to ensure the event happened, including our very own James and Clive, who put on a fantastic show for yet another year.

See you next time!
