Managing Director Maureen Cawthorn celebrates double milestone

Congratulations to our Managing Director Maureen Cawthorn,  who has notched up two significant milestones with Wilkinson Woodward

  • 25 years since she joined the firm and
  • ten years since she took over as Managing Director

In her ten years at the helm, there have been huge changes in the local legal arena; many of Halifax's longstanding law firms have disappeared and more recently, the closure of local courts has forced local people to travel further afield in the pursuit of justice. In addition, whilst legal aid remains accessible in some circumstances, its general demise in recent years has presented major challenges for all law firms.

It’s against this challenging backdrop that Maureen has steered the Wilkinson Woodward ship as we continue to evolve, expand and respond to the changing nature of legal services. In particular, Maureen oversaw our 2012 merger with Huddersfield legal practice Norcliffe and Co and a more recent merger with Bearders Solicitors of Brighouse in 2013.

Alongside her managerial and leadership responsibilities, Maureen continues to practise law, handling a busy caseload of notary, employment and litigation work. As a Notary Public (one of just two Notaries in Halifax), Maureen helps a wide range of clients – from couples wanting to marry abroad to global PLCs trading on an international stage.

Outside work, Maureen volunteers as a Trustee of The Next Step Trust - a Halifax-based charity for young adults with complex needs - where her legal expertise and management experience are often called upon to further the work of the charity.

Congratulations Maureen - here's to the next decade!
