Goodbye Residence and Contact Orders, Hello Child Arrangement Orders

From 22nd April 2014, Residence and Contact Orders were replaced by Child Arrangements Orders.

The new Child Arrangements Orders include the practical arrangements for children in private law and will do away with terminology which was previously interpreted by some couples as having greater control over a child’s welfare. The new Child Arrangement Orders should encourage the involvement of both parents in the child’s life after separation, helping parents to focus on the arrangements for their child/ children whilst simultaneously discouraging protracted disputes over the title of the order.
