Changes to Mediation Funding Will Help Families In Calderdale and Kirklees

From 3 November 2014, changes made to family mediation funding will make financially ineligible parties exempt from the financial means test for the first joint mediation session where their partner is financially eligible for legal aid.

From 3 November 2014, if one parent is eligible for legal aid the other will also have the first joint meeting at no cost. Subsequent meetings could still be chargeable, which should provide a strong incentive for many parents to reach an early agreement. The Government has stated its intention to continue supporting family mediation and legal aid remains available for any parent who is financially eligible. For more information about our Family Mediation Services, please call any of our local offices in Halifax, Huddersfield or Brighouse.
