Calderdale and Halifax County Court - The End of an Era?

You may have seen the recent media coverage about the possible closure of Calderdale Magistrates’ Courts and Halifax County Court.

The two courts are among dozens ear-marked for possible closure by the Ministry of Justice as part of plans to reform the courts and tribunal service.

If successful, the proposals will mean people living in Calderdale could have to travel to magistrates’ courts in Huddersfield, Leeds or Bradford, while the plan is to transfer the work of Halifax County and Family Court to Bradford County Court.

The current public consultation runs until October 8th and we plan to make representations objecting to the proposals.

The plans have significant implications for the ability of local people to access the justice system. Please email your views to estatesconsultation@hmcts.gsi.gov.uk
