End of an era for Halifax County Court

This month marks the end of an era for the communities of Calderdale as Halifax County Court closed its doors for the last time on Friday 2nd December.

The courthouse opened on 23 September 1873 and has borne witness to justice in Calderdale for over 140 years. The closure, which is part of Ministry of Justice plans to reform the UK’s courts and tribunal service, means that people living in Calderdale will now have to travel to county courts in Huddersfield or Bradford.

The traditional wooden courtroom and friendly court staff will all be missed by everyone at Wilkinson Woodward, as well as by our colleagues in other local legal practices and support agencies in the area.

While the closure is disappointing, at least some things remain the same. Should you need access to justice or legal advice, we’re still right here on your doorstep in Halifax town centre – just as we have been for the past 130 years.
